The MIM Mineral Museum, whose name is an abbreviation of Mineral Museum, is a jewel in Beirut's cultural landscape. Inaugurated in October 2013, this private museum, located on the campus of Saint Joseph University, houses one of the world's most significant private mineral collections. The museum was established by Salim Eddé, a chemist with a passion for minerals, who began collecting in 1997. His vision was to create an elegant and educational space where the beauty and scientific value of minerals could be appreciated by all. The museum displays over 2,000 minerals, representing 450 different species from 70 countries. The collection includes crystals, gemstones, and ores, with notable specimens including Lebanese national treasures such as red garnets and blue azurite. Exhibits are categorized by chemical composition and country of origin, offering visitors a global journey through geological wonders. Interactive displays provide insights into the formation, properties, and uses of minerals, with information available in Arabic, English, and French. The MIM Museum also features a fascinating exhibition of marine and flying fossils from Lebanon. This includes a life-size representation of Mimodactylus libanensis, a complete pterosaur fossil found in the region. The museum offers guided tours, workshops, and educational programs for students and groups. These programs aim to foster appreciation for the natural world and inspire future generations of scientists.
