Travel Guide to Trakai Island Castle

Getting There

• Bus

  From Vilnius, head to the Vilnius Bus Station (Vilniaus Autobusų Stotis). Purchase a ticket to Trakai at the ticket counter or from the ticket machines. Buses to Trakai depart frequently, approximately every 30 minutes. Once you board the bus, enjoy the scenic ride which takes about 30-40 minutes. After arriving at the Trakai bus station, follow the signs to the Trakai Island Castle, which is about a 20-minute walk away. As you walk, you'll pass through the picturesque town of Trakai, with views of the lakes.

• Train

  To take the train to Trakai, head to Vilnius Train Station (Vilniaus Geležinkelio Stotis). Purchase a ticket to Trakai at the ticket counter or self-service machines. Trains to Trakai run regularly, with the journey taking around 30 minutes. After arriving at Trakai Train Station, exit the station and walk towards the town center. The castle is about a 30-minute walk from the train station, with clear signage directing you towards the lakes and the castle.

• Bicycle

  If you're feeling adventurous, rent a bicycle in Vilnius. There are several bike rental shops near the city center. Head towards Trakai by following the main roads leading out of the city, which may take about an hour and a half depending on your speed. The route is scenic, with bike paths available. Once you arrive in Trakai, park your bike in designated areas and walk to the castle.

• Walking Tour

  For the more adventurous, you could consider a long walking tour from Vilnius to Trakai. It's approximately 28 kilometers and would take around 6 to 7 hours. Starting from the city center, follow the paths along the Neris River to Trakai. Ensure you have a map or use a navigation app to help you stay on track. This option is best for those who enjoy hiking and exploring nature.
