Getting There

• Car

  From Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, head south towards the town of Bekopaka. Take the Route nationale 35 road and follow the signs towards Morondava. This route may be unpaved and require a 4x4 vehicle. Drive approximately 70 km to reach the junction. At the junction, turn right onto Route nationale 34 and continue for about 120 km. You will pass through small villages and beautiful landscapes. Keep an eye out for signs leading to Maintirano. As you approach Maintirano, follow the signs to Plage de Maintirano. The beach is located just off the main road. Note that this journey may take 3-4 hours depending on road conditions.

• Public Transportation

  From Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, you can take a taxi-brousse (shared taxi) to Morondava. You will need to return to Bekopaka first. After reaching Bekopaka, find a taxi-brousse heading to Morondava. This ride will take about 5-6 hours. Once in Morondava, you can take another taxi-brousse towards Maintirano. Confirm with the driver or locals that they will drop you off at Plage de Maintirano. The entire journey can take upwards of 7-8 hours, so plan accordingly. Taxi-brousse fares can vary, typically around 20,000-30,000 MGA (Malagasy Ariary) for the trip from Bekopaka to Morondava.

• Combination (Car + Taxi-brousse)

  If you're looking for a mix of comfort and local experience, you can drive to Morondava from Tsingy de Bemaraha, then take a taxi-brousse to Maintirano. From Tsingy, follow the directions to Bekopaka and then on to Morondava as previously described. After arriving in Morondava, locate a taxi-brousse that goes to Maintirano. This option allows you to enjoy the scenic drive and save some fatigue for the final leg of your journey. Expect the full trip to take around 6-8 hours, with costs varying based on vehicle rental and taxi-brousse fares.
