From the Johor Bahru Sentral Bus Terminal, take bus number 5 or 33. The bus will take you along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak. After about 15 minutes, get off at the Taman Istana stop. From there, walk towards the main entrance of Istana Besar, which is just a short 5-minute walk straight ahead.

If you are staying in the city center, you can walk to Istana Besar. Start from Jalan Wong Ah Fook and head towards Jalan Ibrahim. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout. Take the second exit onto Jalan Tanjung Puteri, and follow the road for about 10 minutes. You will see Istana Besar on your left as you approach Taman Istana.
