Mali National Park, a gem of natural beauty, is located just outside Bamako. This park spans 103 hectares within a larger 2,100-hectare protected forest reserve, creating a significant greenbelt for the city. The park offers a unique glimpse into Mali's rich ecosystems with diverse landscapes ranging from dense woodlands to open savannahs. Designed to offer leisure and educational activities, the park features fitness, jogging, cycling, and mountaineering tracks. Visitors can explore interpretive trails showcasing botany, birds, and nature. It serves as an important conservation area, protecting various species, including birds and native animals. The park was developed through a public-private partnership between the government of Mali and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC). As part of the refurbishment marking Mali's 50th anniversary, architect Diébédo Francis Kéré designed new amenities, including entry points, a youth and sports center, and a restaurant. The park attracts an average of 500,000 visitors per year.
