From Gaithersburg, head to the Gaithersburg Metro Station. Take the Ride On Bus Route 55 towards Rockville. Get off at the stop at Montgomery Mall. From there, transfer to Bus Route 34 towards Glen Echo. Get off at the stop on MacArthur Boulevard and Cabin John Park. From the bus stop, walk approximately 10 minutes down MacArthur Boulevard towards the C&O Canal. You will see signs for Lock 8 along the way.

Rent a bicycle from a local rental shop in Gaithersburg. Head south on Washingtonian Blvd towards the Rio Washingtonian Center. Continue onto the path towards the C&O Canal Towpath. Follow the Towpath heading west, which will take you directly to Lock 8. The ride is approximately 6 miles and offers a scenic route along the canal.

If you're near the center of Gaithersburg, start by walking towards the Washingtonian Center. From there, follow the path along the water towards the C&O Canal Towpath. Once you reach the Towpath, turn west and walk along the canal. The distance is about 5 miles, and it will take you roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Lock 8. Enjoy the scenic views along the canal as you walk.
