Walking
If you are in downtown New Bedford, start by heading towards Purchase Street. Walk east on Purchase Street until you reach the intersection with Route 18 (also known as Acushnet Avenue). Cross over Route 18 and continue walking on Purchase Street. After about 0.5 miles, turn left onto Union Street. Continue straight on Union Street until you reach the Whaling Museum on your left; it's a great landmark to note. From there, continue walking straight until you reach the intersection with Elm Street. Turn right onto Elm Street and walk until you reach the intersection with Power Street. The John Brown House Museum will be on your right at 52 Power St, just a few steps away.

Public Transportation
From New Bedford, you can take the local bus service (the Greater New Bedford Regional Transit Authority, GNBRT) to Providence. Board the bus at the nearest stop along Purchase Street and take the bus towards Providence. Once you arrive in Providence, disembark at the stop closest to the Rhode Island State House (which is a well-known landmark). From there, walk east on Smith Street for about 0.3 miles until you reach the intersection with Power Street. Turn left onto Power Street, and you will find the John Brown House Museum at 52 Power St on your right.
