Discover more about Old Brick House

The Old Brick House, located at 622 Bayview Ave in Biloxi, Mississippi, stands as a testament to the city's rich history and resilience. Constructed around 1850, the house, also known as the Biloxi Garden Center, offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its unique architecture and enduring legacy. Built by John Henley, a former sheriff and mayor of Biloxi, the house is a notable example of Greek Revival architecture. Its stout construction, featuring heart-pine lumber and three layers of brick in the outer walls, allowed it to withstand numerous hurricanes and storm surges over the past 150 years. The house faces northward toward Back Bay, reflecting the importance of boat travel when it was built. In the mid-1950s, the house was saved from neglect by local Biloxi Garden Clubs. The City of Biloxi acquired the property and used it as a museum and venue for public gatherings. Although heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Old Brick House was restored and re-dedicated in 2011. Today, it is one of the few antebellum homes still standing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is available for private events.
