Discover more about Governor's Mansion

The Mississippi Governor's Mansion, a National Historic Landmark since 1975, has been the official residence of Mississippi's governors since 1842. Designed by architect William Nichols in the Greek Revival style, it's considered one of the finest examples of this architectural style in the United States. The mansion's history is rich and varied. Construction began in 1839, and it was first occupied by Governor Tilghman Tucker in 1842. The building has been in continuous use since then, except for periods of renovation. During the Civil War, wounded Confederate soldiers were housed at the Mansion, and Union officers were entertained there on at least one occasion. Today, visitors can explore the mansion's historical areas on guided tours. These tours, led by trained docents, showcase the elegant period furnishings and paintings while providing insights into the building's heritage and its former residents. The tours typically include the state dining room, gold parlor, and green room. Note that photographs are not permitted inside.
