Discover more about Old Brick House

The Old Brick House, located at 622 Bayview Avenue in Biloxi, Mississippi, is a treasured landmark that provides a window into the city's past. Constructed circa 1843, the house represents a unique blend of French Colonial and American architectural styles. Its original construction is attributed to William Rodgers of New Orleans. Rodgers stipulated in his will that the property be sold to benefit a poor boy's asylum in New Orleans. In 1850, John L. Henley, a former sheriff and mayor of Biloxi, purchased the home. The house is one of Biloxi's oldest buildings and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its stout, brick construction has allowed it to withstand numerous hurricanes and storm surges over the years. The front of the house faces northward toward Back Bay, reflecting the importance of water transportation during its early years. In the mid-1950s, the house was restored by local garden clubs and later acquired by the City of Biloxi. Today, the city operates the house as an event venue for small gatherings, meetings, and weddings. Although Hurricane Katrina caused severe damage in 2005, the house was meticulously restored to be historically accurate and re-dedicated in 2011. The challenging restoration project ensured that the replacement bricks matched the originals in color and size.
