The Candle of Gratitude, known locally as *Lumânarea Recunoștinței*, stands as a powerful symbol of remembrance and resilience on the outskirts of Soroca. Inaugurated on March 27, 2004, this monument pays tribute to the anonymous heroes who preserved Moldova's language, culture, and history. The monument also commemorates the great unknown poet who wrote the ballad "Miorița". The concept for this monument came from the famous Moldavian classical writer Ion Druta, who wanted to honor those who worked to preserve Moldavian culture. Rising 29.5 meters high, the candle-shaped chapel is built on a rock overlooking the Dniester River. Inside, a small chapel offers a space for prayer and reflection. From the top, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Soroca, the Dniester River, and the surrounding landscape; on a clear night, the light from the monument can be seen as far away as Otaci and Camenca. To reach the Candle of Gratitude, visitors can ascend approximately 650 steps from the river. The monument is not only a visual masterpiece but also a gathering point for locals and tourists alike.
