Discover more about Rudi Monastery

Rudi Monastery, also known as Mănăstirea Rudi, is a serene sanctuary located in the picturesque region of Moldova. Surrounded by verdant forests and rolling hills, this historical site offers visitors a peaceful retreat. The monastery is situated approximately 215 km from Chisinau and 42 km from Soroca, in the heart of the Rudi-Arionesti landscape, not far from the Dniester River. Founded in 1777, with the blessing of Bishop Inochentie from Husi, the monastery's Holy Trinity Church was built in Moldovan style. Brothers Andronachi and Teodor Rudea, with financial support from Donciu from Mavilau, established the hermitage. The church's architecture reflects a distinct Moldavian character, reminiscent of medieval Moldavian churches from the 16th and 17th centuries. Throughout its history, Rudi Monastery has faced periods of closure and restoration. In 1846, local authorities temporarily closed the temple, and in 1948, Archbishop Benedict of Chisinau ordered its closure. The monastery was transformed into an orphanage and later a children's hospital. In 1992, three monks revitalized the monastery, initiating renovation works. Today, Rudi Monastery stands as a testament to Moldova's rich religious and cultural heritage, inviting visitors to explore its beautiful grounds and experience its calming ambiance.
