Discover more about Exotic Garden of Monaco

The Exotic Garden of Monaco, opened in 1933, is a botanical garden unlike any other, showcasing a vast collection of exotic succulents. Situated on a cliffside, it offers breathtaking views of the Principality of Monaco, the Mediterranean Sea, and the surrounding coastline. The garden is home to over a thousand species of succulent plants from various arid regions, including the southwestern United States, Mexico, South and Central America, South Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. The diverse collection ensures that there are always plants in bloom, with South African succulents flowering in winter and cacti displaying their blossoms in spring and summer. Beneath the garden lies the Observatory Cave, a natural grotto adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, and other fascinating limestone formations. Guided tours take visitors through the cave, revealing evidence of prehistoric human habitation and the remains of animals that roamed the area thousands of years ago. The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology, located within the garden, displays many artifacts discovered in the cave and the surrounding region. Currently (July 2025), the Exotic Garden is undergoing renovation and safety work and is scheduled to reopen in late 2025. However, the Botanical Center and gift shop remain open to the public.
