History and Heritage

Nestled on Nice's vibrant port at 14 Quai Papacino, Confiserie Florian traces its roots to the early 20th century. The site was once home to a renowned chocolate factory established in the 1800s, where cocoa beans arrived by boat from Africa, filling the streets with roasting aromas. Artist Henri Matisse was a regular visitor. In 1974, the Fuchs family revived it as Confiserie du Vieux Nice, transforming it into a showcase for their Pont-du-Loup mother house specialties. Renovated in 1994, it preserves over a century of family tradition in fruit and flower confectionery.

Production Workshops

Visitors enter a world of artisanal craftsmanship across three visible workshops. The chocolate area crafts pralines, almond paste, and feuilletines, enrobed in dark, milk, or white chocolate. Next, candied clementines receive their glossy glaze. The final space produces sour sweets. Free guided tours in multiple languages reveal these stages, from glazing to packaging in Provençal baskets. Production pauses weekends, but the experience remains immersive year-round.

Florian's hallmarks are candied tangerines—orangettes dipped in dark chocolate—alongside confits of apricots, angelica, pineapple, cherries, peaches, pears, plums, and melons. Crystallized flowers like violets and roses shine in jams and standalone bags. Citrus marmalades from regional fruits, cocoa almonds, and flower-infused preserves complete the range. Ample tastings tempt all ages, with seasonal Easter and Christmas chocolates hand-painted in over 600 molds.

Overlooking Lympia harbour near Garibaldi's birthplace and backing the Castle hill, the ochre-hued boutique blends modern clarity with sunny Provençal charm. It's steps from Vieux Nice's antique district, Cours Saleya flower market, Place Masséna, and beaches. Parking reimbursement at Port Lympia applies for purchases over 15 EUR.
