Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Maxixe, head east towards the main road, Avenida da República. Walk along this road until you reach the Maxixe Ferry Terminal, which should take about 10-15 minutes. Once at the terminal, purchase a ticket for the ferry to Inhambane, which departs frequently. The ferry ride takes approximately 30 minutes. After disembarking in Inhambane, follow the signs to the main road, Rua da Liberdade, and head south until you reach the junction with Rua da Beira. Turn left onto Rua da Beira and continue until you reach the Miramar area. Follow the signs toward Barra. This walk along the coastal road will take you about 1-1.5 hours, and you will eventually spot the Barra Lighthouse in the distance.

• Bicycle

  If you are able to rent a bicycle in Maxixe, start your journey by heading towards Avenida da República. Make your way to the Maxixe Ferry Terminal and take the ferry to Inhambane. Once you arrive, navigate towards Rua da Liberdade and then head south. At the junction with Rua da Beira, turn left and continue cycling towards the Miramar area. Follow the coastal road, which will lead you directly to Barra Lighthouse. The cycling route may take around 1-1.5 hours depending on your pace, and it is a scenic ride along the coast.

• Boat

  If you prefer a more adventurous route, you can seek out a local boat service that might take you directly to Barra Beach. Start by heading to the Maxixe Ferry Terminal and inquire about small boat rides to Barra. These rides may vary in availability, so it’s best to ask locals. If you find a boat, enjoy a scenic ride that may take around 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive at Barra Beach, you will be within walking distance of the Barra Lighthouse, which is easily visible from the beach.
