Public Bus
From central Tauranga, head to the nearest bus stop, which is located at the Tauranga Bus Interchange on Willow Street. Take the Bayhopper bus number 2 towards Mount Maunganui. The journey takes about 25 minutes. Get off at the 'Mount Maunganui' stop. From there, it's a short 10-minute walk to the base of Mauao. Head towards the beach and you will see the trailhead to Mauao on the right.

Walking
If you are staying in the Mount Maunganui area, you can walk to Mauao. Start from the main beach area and head towards the end of the beach. Follow the path that leads to the base of the mountain. The walk will take around 15-20 minutes depending on your pace. Look for the signs that will guide you to the entrance of the Mauao walkway.

Bicycle Rental
For a more active option, consider renting a bicycle. There are several rental shops in central Tauranga. After renting a bike, cycle towards Mount Maunganui via Marine Parade. The distance is about 8 kilometers and will take around 30 minutes. Once you reach Mount Maunganui, park your bike in the designated bike parking areas available near the base of Mauao.
