Getting There

• Car

  If you are starting from Asheville, NC, head north on US-25 N/Merrimon Ave for approximately 3 miles. Take the exit onto I-240 W toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. Merge onto the Blue Ridge Parkway and continue for about 5 miles. Look for the Tanbark Ridge Overlook on your right at milepost 376, located at 3767 Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, NC 28804. There is no entrance fee for the overlook.

• Public Transportation + Walking

  Take a public bus from Asheville to the Blue Ridge Parkway area. Check local transit schedules, as routes may vary. Once you arrive at the nearest bus stop, such as the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles to reach Tanbark Ridge Overlook. Follow the Parkway on foot, enjoying the scenic views. Be sure to wear appropriate walking shoes and bring water, as this is a rural area with limited services.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can bike from Asheville via the Blue Ridge Parkway. Begin at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center, which is accessible by public transport or car. From the Visitor Center, bike approximately 5 miles north on the Parkway to reach Tanbark Ridge Overlook. This route is scenic but be prepared for hilly terrain and ensure your bike is equipped for long rides.
