Car
From Lakeview, head northwest on OR-140 W for approximately 50 miles. Then merge onto US-97 N towards Bend. Continue on US-97 N for about 70 miles. Take the exit for OR-372 E, follow the signs for Lava Butte Lookout. Drive on Lava Butte Road until you reach the parking area at the base of the lookout. Parking is available, and there is no fee.
Public Transportation
Take a Greyhound or local bus service from Lakeview to Bend, which usually takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Bend, you can catch a local taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to Lava Butte Lookout. The distance from downtown Bend to Lava Butte Lookout is approximately 20 miles, and it will take about 30-40 minutes by car. Ensure to check the bus schedules ahead of time for your return trip.
Hiking
If you're already nearby and want a more adventurous route, you can park at the Lava Lands Visitor Center (just off US-97) and hike the Lava Butte Trail. This is a 0.5-mile paved path that leads to the top of Lava Butte Lookout. The Visitor Center typically charges a small entrance fee (around $5) for parking.
