Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Bairro Alto, head towards the Praça Luís de Camões. Cross the square and continue straight down Rua da Misericórdia. After a short walk, you will reach the intersection with Rua da Trindade. Turn left onto Rua da Trindade and continue until you reach the end of the street. At this point, you will see the Carmo Convent (Convento do Carmo) ahead on your right at Largo do Carmo. It is located at Largo do Carmo 27, 1200-092 Lisboa.

  • Funicular

    If you prefer a more scenic route, you can take the Elevador da Bica funicular. Start at the top of Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo and board the funicular. Ride it down towards Rua da Bica, then disembark at the bottom. From there, walk up Rua do Combro until you reach the junction with Rua da Misericórdia. Follow the same directions as above to reach Carmo Convent. Please note that the funicular costs around €3.

  • Tram

    You can also catch Tram 28 from a stop in Bairro Alto. Look for the nearest tram stop and board Tram 28 in the direction of Martim Moniz. Disembark at the stop called 'Carmo' (it will be a short ride). From there, it's just a few minutes' walk to Carmo Convent. The tram ticket costs approximately €3.00.
