Travel Guide to Stillhouse Cove Gaspee Memorial

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from downtown Providence, head southeast on Washington Street toward the intersection with South Main Street. Turn right onto South Main Street and continue until you reach the intersection with Point Street. Take a left onto Point Street, and follow it as it curves to become I-95 South. Continue on this path for about 0.5 miles. When you reach the exit for 10-S toward Cranston, merge onto I-95 South. After approximately 2 miles, take the exit for RI-37 East. Continue on RI-37 for about 2 miles, then take the exit for Elmwood Avenue. Stay on Elmwood Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles, then turn left onto Lakewood Drive. Follow Lakewood Drive until you reach the intersection with Gaspee Street, where you will find the Stillhouse Cove Gaspee Memorial on your right.

• Public Transit - Bus

  From Providence, walk to the nearest bus stop for the RIPTA (Rhode Island Public Transit Authority). You can catch the bus number 1 (Broad Street). Board the bus and ride for approximately 20 minutes, then get off at the stop for Elmwood Avenue. From there, walk south on Elmwood Avenue for about 0.5 miles. Turn left onto Lakewood Drive and continue until you reach Gaspee Street. The Stillhouse Cove Gaspee Memorial will be located on your right.

• Biking

  Starting from downtown Providence, head southeast towards Riverwalk. Once on Riverwalk, follow the path along the Woonasquatucket River until you reach the intersection with the bike lane that leads you towards Point Street. Continue biking along South Main Street, crossing over to I-95 South. Once you reach the exit for RI-37 East, take that exit and continue biking on the shoulder of the road. After approximately 2 miles, follow the bike-friendly paths that lead to Lakewood Drive. Follow Lakewood Drive and turn left onto Gaspee Street. The Stillhouse Cove Gaspee Memorial will be on your right.
