Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the main town of Hateg. From Hateg, take the DJ668 road towards Râușor. After approximately 30 km, you will reach Râușor. From Râușor, follow the signs towards the Râușor ski resort. Park your car at the designated parking area near the resort. From the parking area, Acul Retezat is approximately a 2-hour hike. Follow the marked trails towards the Retezat mountains, ensuring you have a map or GPS for navigation.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Timișoara or Deva to Hateg. Buses run regularly, and the journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in Hateg, you can catch a local bus to Râușor. The bus ride to Râușor takes about 30 minutes. After arriving in Râușor, you will need to hike to Acul Retezat, which is roughly a 2-hour trek. Follow the marked trails towards Retezat mountains, and be sure to have a map or GPS to assist with navigation.
Hiking
From the parking area near the Râușor ski resort, begin your hike towards Acul Retezat. The trail is well-marked, and you will encounter beautiful landscapes along the way. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and bring water and snacks. The hike takes about 2 hours, and the trail involves some elevation gain, so be prepared for a moderate level of exertion.
