Car
If you are traveling by car, you can start your journey from the nearest major town, which is Hațeg. From Hațeg, take DN66 towards the town of Uricani. After approximately 20 km, turn right onto DJ686 towards Retezat National Park. Follow this road, which will take you through picturesque landscapes. As you enter the park, make sure to pay the entrance fee, which is around 10 RON for adults. Continue on the road until you reach the parking area near Poiana Pelegii. From the parking area, the trail to Șaua Pietricele begins. It is a marked hiking trail, and the hike takes about 2-3 hours, depending on your pace.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a train or bus to Hațeg. From Hațeg, you can find local buses or arrange for a taxi to take you to the entrance of Retezat National Park. The bus ride may take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you will need to pay the entrance fee of around 10 RON. After entering the park, you can either hike from there or find a local guide or transportation service that can take you to Poiana Pelegii, which is the starting point for the hiking trail to Șaua Pietricele. The hike from Poiana Pelegii will take about 2-3 hours.

From Poiana Pelegii, follow the marked hiking trail towards Șaua Pietricele. The trail is well-maintained but can be steep in some sections. Ensure you have appropriate hiking gear, water, and snacks for the hike. The path will lead you through beautiful alpine scenery, and you will pass by various natural landmarks.
