From Butare, head to the main bus station located near the town center. Look for buses heading towards Kamembe or Cyangugu, as these will pass by Nyungwe National Park. The bus ride will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Inform the conductor you want to stop at Nyungwe National Park, and they will assist you. The bus fare is quite affordable, typically around 1,000 RWF.

Shared Taxi (Taxi-Brousse)
Alternatively, you can take a shared taxi (also known as Taxi-Brousse) from the main taxi station in Butare. Look for taxis heading to Kamembe or Cyangugu. These taxis are faster than buses and can get you to the park in about 1 to 1.5 hours. The cost is a bit higher than the bus, usually around 2,000 RWF. Ensure to tell the driver your destination, and they will drop you off at the nearest point to Nyungwe National Park.

Motorbike Taxi (Moto)
For a more direct route, consider hiring a motorbike taxi. You can find these at various points in Butare. Agree on a fare beforehand, which should be around 5,000 to 10,000 RWF depending on your negotiation skills and the distance. The ride will take about 1 hour. The moto will take you directly to the park entrance.
