Getting there

Walking

From the center of Anse la Raye, start at the main square where the local market is located. Head west along the main road (the only road) towards the waterfront. Continue straight on this road until you reach the junction that leads to the village of Canaries. At this junction, instead of turning, keep going straight. The road will begin to incline and take you up towards the surrounding hills. Follow this road until you reach a fork. Take the left path, which is less traveled but leads towards Mt Fortune. Keep an eye out for the signs that direct you towards the mountain. The walk will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Enjoy the local scenery and the lush vegetation along the way!

Hiking

If you are feeling adventurous and want to hike directly to Mt Fortune, start from Anse la Raye and make your way to the nearby trailhead located near the last row of houses at the outskirts of the village. This trailhead is marked by a small sign indicating hiking routes. Follow the trail that leads upward. It is steep and can be challenging, but it is well-marked. Bring plenty of water and ensure you wear appropriate footwear. The hike will take about 1 to 1.5 hours and will lead you directly to the summit of Mt Fortune, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Biking

If you have access to a bicycle, start at the main square in Anse la Raye. Head towards the main road leading out of the village. Bike towards the village of Canaries, but instead of turning at the fork, continue straight up the incline. The biking trail is challenging but rewarding with beautiful views. Make sure to take breaks as needed, and it should take about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the vicinity of Mt Fortune. Once you arrive, you may need to walk the last few minutes to the peak.
