If you are driving to Désert de Lompoul, start your journey from the nearest major city, Saint-Louis. Take the N2 highway southbound towards Lompoul. Continue for approximately 50 kilometers until you see signs for Désert de Lompoul. The entrance is well marked, and you will find a parking area where you can safely leave your vehicle. The desert is about a 10-minute walk from the parking area.
Public Transportation
To reach Désert de Lompoul using public transportation, first take a local bus or shared taxi from Saint-Louis to Lompoul. This ride typically costs around 1,000 to 2,000 CFA (approximately $2 to $4) and takes about an hour. Once you arrive in Lompoul, you can either walk or hire a local taxi to take you the remaining 10 kilometers to the entrance of the desert. Be sure to negotiate the fare beforehand; it should cost around 2,500 CFA (about $5). The entrance to the desert is well marked.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a private taxi from Saint-Louis to Désert de Lompoul. This journey will take around 45 minutes and cost approximately 15,000 CFA (about $30). The taxi will drop you off at the entrance of the desert, where you can begin your exploration.
Walking
If you find yourself in Lompoul village, you can walk to Désert de Lompoul. It is about a 10-minute walk from the village center. Just head towards the marked path that leads into the dunes, and you will reach the desert entrance.
