Charles VI Gate: A Historical Gateway to Belgrade's Past

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the city center, head towards Knez Mihailova Street, which is a pedestrian zone. Walk along Knez Mihailova until you reach Republic Square (Trg Republike). Here, you will find the National Museum and the National Theatre. From Republic Square, head towards the Kalemegdan Park entrance at the end of the street. Enter the park and walk straight, following the signs towards the Belgrade Fortress. Once you reach the fortress, walk towards the upper ramparts. The Charles VI Gate is located near the upper part of the fortress, where you can enjoy stunning views of the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers.

• Public Transport (Tram/Bus)

  You can take tram line 2 or bus line 15 from various locations in the city. If you are near Republic Square, look for the tram stop for line 2 which will take you towards Kalemegdan. Get off at the stop named 'Kalemegdan'. From there, follow the signs to the Belgrade Fortress. Upon entering the fortress, head towards the upper ramparts where the Charles VI Gate is located. This option is convenient if you prefer to minimize walking.

• Taxi or Ride-sharing

  If you want a more direct route, you can use a taxi or a ride-sharing service such as CarGo or Uber. Simply input 'Kalemegdan' or 'Belgrade Fortress' as your destination. The driver will take you to the nearest entrance of the fortress. Once you arrive, follow the paths leading to the upper ramparts where the Charles VI Gate is situated. This method is ideal if you have mobility concerns or prefer a quick trip.
