Getting There

  • Public Transit - Bus

    Start at the Fort Mill Town Center. Head to the nearest bus stop for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS). You will need to take Bus Route 47, which travels towards the Steele Creek area. Board the bus and stay on for approximately 30 minutes, enjoying the scenic views along the way. Get off at the 'York Rd at Steele Creek Rd' stop. From there, it's a short walk of about 0.5 miles. Head south on York Rd, and you will reach McDowell Nature Preserve at 15222 York Rd, Charlotte, NC 28278.

  • Walking

    If you are staying in a nearby area within Fort Mill, you can walk to McDowell Nature Preserve. For instance, if you are near the Fort Mill Community Center, head west on Main St toward US-21. Turn left onto US-21 and walk south for about 1 mile. You will come to the intersection with York Rd. Turn right onto York Rd and continue for another mile until you see the entrance to McDowell Nature Preserve on your left.

    If you have access to a bike, you can ride from Fort Mill to McDowell Nature Preserve. Start at the Fort Mill bike path and head towards the Catawba River. Follow the bike path along the river until you reach the intersection with York Rd. Turn left on York Rd and continue riding for approximately 2 miles. The preserve will be on your right at 15222 York Rd.
