Getting There

  • Car

    From any location within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, head towards the main road leading out of the conservation area. Follow the signs towards Karatu. Once you reach the main road (A7), turn right towards Arusha. Continue driving for approximately 30 kilometers until you see the sign for Lake Natron. Turn left onto the road leading to Lake Natron. The total driving distance from Ngorongoro to Lake Natron is about 70 kilometers and may take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions. Note that the last part of the road may be unpaved, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Lake Natron from Ngorongoro by public transportation, first, make your way to Karatu town. You can either walk to the main road or ask local guides for assistance. From Karatu, take a shared dala-dala (minibus) heading towards Arusha. Inform the conductor that you wish to stop at Lake Natron. The fare is around 5,000 TZS. The journey will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
