Public Bus
Start by making your way to the Franklin Transit Authority bus stop near downtown Franklin. Take the Route 5 bus towards Brentwood. Stay on the bus for about 20 minutes until you reach the Brentwood Library stop. From there, transfer to the Route 91 bus, which will take you directly to the Dyer Observatory. The observatory is about a 5-minute walk from the bus stop; head east on Oman Drive until you see the observatory entrance.
Bicycle
If you prefer to bike, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Franklin. Head southeast on Columbia Ave (US-31) towards Brentwood. Continue on Columbia Ave for about 3 miles. Make a right onto Oman Drive. The observatory will be on your left after approximately 1 mile. The total bike ride will take around 30-40 minutes, depending on your pace.
Walking
For those up for a long walk, start at the Franklin Square. Walk south on Columbia Avenue (US-31) for roughly 3.5 miles. After crossing into Brentwood, take a left onto Oman Drive. Continue walking on Oman Drive for about 1 mile, and you will reach the Dyer Observatory. This walk will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes.
