Public Transportation
To reach Beloi Outer Reef from any location in Atauro Island, start by taking a local bus or 'microlet' to the main town of Atauro, which is called Vila Maumeta. The bus fare is typically around $1-2 USD. Once you arrive in Vila Maumeta, look for a boat operator who can take you to Beloi. The boat ride can cost approximately $10-20 USD depending on the operator and the number of passengers. Make sure to negotiate the price beforehand.
Private Vehicle
If you have access to a car or a rented scooter, drive towards the coastal road leading to Beloi. From Vila Maumeta, head north on the main road until you see signs directing you towards Beloi. The journey is approximately 10 km and should take around 20-30 minutes. Upon reaching Beloi, park your vehicle at designated parking areas near the beach. From there, you can either walk to the reef or arrange for a local boat to take you directly to the reef. Ensure to check for any parking fees, which can vary.
Walking
For the adventurous traveler, walking is an option if you are already in Beloi. If you are staying nearby, the walk along the coastal path to the reef can be beautiful. It will take you approximately 30-45 minutes to reach the reef on foot, depending on your starting point. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as there are limited facilities along the way.
