    If you are starting from the Petersburg Visitor Center at 100 River Street, head south on River Street towards the Appomattox River. Continue walking straight until you reach the intersection with East Bank Street. Turn left onto East Bank Street and follow it as it curves to the right and becomes South Crater Road. Walk about 0.5 miles. Fort Welch is located at the intersection of South Crater Road and East Washington Street. Look for signs indicating Fort Welch Historical Landmark.
