Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car within Shenandoah National Park, make your way to the Old Rag Mountain parking area. From the park entrance at Thornton Gap (near Mile Marker 31 on Skyline Drive), follow Skyline Drive south for approximately 12 miles until you reach the sign for Old Rag Mountain. Turn right onto Route 601 (Old Rag Road) and continue for about 3 miles. The parking area is located on your left. Note that there is a parking fee of $20 per vehicle, which is valid for seven consecutive days.

    Currently, there is no direct public transportation available to Old Rag View Overlook. Visitors typically need to rent a car or use a rideshare service to reach the Old Rag parking area from nearby towns such as Front Royal or Luray.
