Getting There

• Car

  If you're starting from a central location in Bighorn National Forest, your best route will be to head east towards the town of Buffalo, WY. From the forest, take US-16 E for approximately 35 miles until you reach Buffalo. Once in Buffalo, merge onto I-90 E towards Gillette. Continue on I-90 for about 60 miles, then take exit 189 for WY-24 toward Devils Tower. Follow WY-24 for about 12 miles until you reach WY-110. Turn right onto WY-110, and continue for 5 miles to arrive at Devils Tower National Monument located at WY-110, Devils Tower, WY 82714. Make sure to check your fuel before leaving as services may be limited in the forest and surrounding areas.

  Public transportation options are limited in this remote area. If you do not have access to a vehicle, consider taking a Greyhound bus to Gillette, WY. From Gillette, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach Devils Tower, which is approximately 50 miles away. Call ahead to confirm availability and costs as these services may be infrequent. It is advisable to check the Greyhound schedule in advance to ensure you have a return trip planned as well.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, biking from Bighorn National Forest to Devils Tower is an option, though it requires good fitness levels and preparation. Start by heading south on local forest roads that connect to US-16 E. Follow US-16 E to Buffalo, then take I-90 E for a short distance to exit 189 for WY-24. This ride will take you through scenic routes, but ensure you have proper gear, maps, and supplies. Expect a total distance of around 65 miles, which may take a full day depending on your cycling speed and stops.
