Step into a realm where design innovation embraces the tranquility of nature at Treehotel, a unique destination nestled in the heart of Swedish Lapland. This winter, experience the extraordinary blend of minimalist architecture and the enchanting allure of a snow-laden forest, creating an unforgettable escape high among the trees.

A Winter Fairytale in the Swedish Lapland

The journey to Harads is an adventure in itself, a passage through a landscape transformed by winter's touch. As you approach Treehotel, the first glimpse is striking: minimalist structures perched amidst a forest cloaked in snow. The contrast is captivating, a testament to the seamless integration of modern design with the raw beauty of nature. The air is crisp, carrying the scent of pine and the promise of an extraordinary experience. With each step, the snow crunches softly underfoot, a symphony of winter that accompanies your anticipation.

Nestled 60 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle, Treehotel presents a collection of eight unique treehouses, each a creation of different architects. This family-owned, eco-friendly haven has been welcoming adventurous guests since 2010, offering a low-impact experience that harmonizes with its surroundings. The anticipation of spending a night in one of these innovative treehouses is palpable, a blend of childhood fantasy and sophisticated design. The minimalist aesthetic of the accommodations stands in stark contrast to the wild, untamed forest, creating a sense of wonder and excitement.

The setting is immersive, engaging all senses. The visual contrast of the modern structures against the snow-covered trees is striking. The crisp, clean scent of pine fills the air, mingling with the subtle aroma of wood from the cabins. The silence of the winter forest is broken only by the crunch of snow and the occasional call of a bird, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere. This sensory symphony sets the stage for a truly unique and memorable stay.

The Mirrorcube: Reflection and Reality

The Mirrorcube is perhaps the most iconic of Treehotel's accommodations, a testament to innovative design and seamless integration with nature. This 4x4x4 meter cube is clad in mirrored glass, creating a camouflage that reflects the surrounding forest and sky. From a distance, it appears to dissolve into the landscape, a mirage that sparks curiosity and wonder.

Inside, the Mirrorcube offers a cozy and minimalist retreat. The interior is finished with birch plywood, creating a warm and inviting space. Large windows provide panoramic views of the surrounding forest, framing nature in cinematic clarity. Heated floors ensure comfort during cold winter nights, while a discreet balcony offers a private space to connect with the outdoors. The design is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, creating a harmonious balance between modern comfort and natural beauty.

Staying in the Mirrorcube is a unique experience. The feeling of being camouflaged in the forest is both surreal and peaceful. Waking up surrounded by forest reflections is a reminder of the beauty and tranquility of nature. To prevent birds from colliding with the glass, an infrared film is applied to the exterior, ensuring the safety of the local wildlife. Access to the Mirrorcube is via a suspended bridge, adding to the sense of adventure and seclusion.

The 7th Room: A Treetop Stargazing Haven

The 7th Room is one of Treehotel's most ambitious designs, offering an unparalleled experience of nature and luxury. Suspended ten meters above the ground, this treehouse provides breathtaking views of the Lapland treetops and the Lule River. Designed by Snøhetta, the 7th Room blends modern Nordic design with the elemental quiet of the forest.

The architectural design is striking, featuring a wooden facade clad with burnt pine boards. Large panoramic windows offer unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape, while a netted terrace provides a unique space for relaxation and stargazing. The underside of the cabin features a large black and white print of trees, creating a visual illusion that makes the structure appear to disappear from below. Inside, the 7th Room is spacious and comfortable, with two bedrooms, a social lounge area, and a bathroom.

Stargazing from the netted terrace is an unforgettable experience. As darkness falls, the sky comes alive with countless stars, and if you're lucky, the Northern Lights may dance across the horizon. The comfortable interior provides a cozy retreat from the cold, while the integration of a live tree within the structure creates a unique connection with nature. The 7th Room is a true haven, a place where you can immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of the Lapland wilderness.

Dining Amongst the Pines: A Culinary Journey

The dining experience at Treehotel is a culinary journey that celebrates the flavors of the north. Located in the Guesthouse, the restaurant offers a unique setting with a retro 1930s-40s style and traditional Swedish decor. The focus is on locally sourced ingredients, with dishes that highlight the region's culinary heritage.

The menu features Arctic char, reindeer, and other regional specialties, prepared with creativity and passion. The chefs carefully craft each dish to showcase the natural flavors of the ingredients, creating a memorable dining experience. Dining under the stars on a frozen lake is a unique option, offering a magical setting for a gastronomic adventure. The ice dining experience includes a sled transfer to a tipi tent on the frozen Lule River, where a three-course meal is prepared by a nature guide.

For a truly immersive culinary experience, consider the gastronomic tasting menu. This multi-course meal showcases the best of Lapland's cuisine, with each dish carefully paired with a complementary beverage. The dining experience at Treehotel is more than just a meal; it's a celebration of the region's natural bounty and culinary traditions. The restaurant combines the highest quality food of the current season from the north with creative flavors made of local produce, ranging from wild game to hand-picked berries.

The image shows root vegetables, mushrooms, berries, and sauce artfully arranged on vintage-style tableware. Warm natural light highlights textures—ceramic glaze, wood grain, frosted berries—while the background softly blurs into cozy, retro décor and fireplace glow.

Winter Activities: Adventure in Lapland

Treehotel offers a wide range of winter activities, allowing guests to explore the beauty and adventure of Lapland. From snowshoeing and ice fishing to Northern Lights excursions, there's something for everyone. Dog sledding through the snow-covered landscape is an unforgettable experience, offering a unique perspective on the region's natural beauty.

For a cultural experience, consider a visit to a Sami village. Learn about the traditions and lifestyle of the indigenous people of Lapland, and perhaps even have the opportunity to meet reindeer. Building an igloo is another unique activity, offering a hands-on experience of winter survival skills. With instructions from the experts you will succeed! Transfer to Jokkmokk (approx 1hr) and a short ski tour on traditional wooden skis onto the frozen lake. Igloo building is a team activity, ideally 4 people. It's hard work but very satisfying.

Northern Lights excursions are a must-do during the winter months. Venture into the darkness of the Lapland night, and with luck, witness the mesmerizing dance of the Aurora Borealis. Whether you're seeking adventure or cultural immersion, Treehotel provides the perfect base for exploring the wonders of winter in Lapland. The hotel also offers the unique opportunity to dine under the stars on a frozen lake, adding an unforgettable element to your stay.
