Monumento A Alfonso XII
Our first stop will be the impressive monument to Alfonso XII, an imposing statue dedicated to the monarch that overlooks the Great Pond, which is the heart of the park.
Palacio De Cristal
Than you will continue to see the Crystal Palace, a giant greenhouse for tropical plants originally built on the occasion of the Flora Exhibition of the Philippine Islands of 1887.
Parterre del Retiro
Than you will visit the Parterre, a beautiful vegetation area which is inspired by French gardens. Here is located the oldest tree in Madrid, the "ahuehuete", an exotic tree that loses its leaves in cold climates but not in hot climates.
Puerta de Felipe IV
Then you will see the Puerta de Felipe IV, a monumental baroque style gate which is the oldest entrance to the Retiro park.
Observatorio Astronomico de Madrid
You will also explore the Royal Astronomical Observatory, where is stored a collection of ancient instruments such as the Foucault pendulum and the Repsold meridian circle.
Fuente de la Alcachofa Madrid
You will know the the Artichoke fountain, a baroque architectural work made of stone and granite.
Ermita de San Pelayo y San Isidoro
Finally you will see the San Pelayo and San Isidoro hermitage, belonging to the Romanesque period.
