Your Itinerary

Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d'Assisi

The Basilica is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Assisi, a town in the Umbria region in central Italy, where Saint Francis was born and died. It is a Papal minor basilica and one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy. With its accompanying friary, Sacro Convento, the basilica is a distinctive landmark to those approaching Assisi. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.

Admission Included

Rocca Maggiore

The Rocca is an imposing fortress rebuilt in the 14th century over an earlier fortification dating back to the time of Charlemagne. From this building it is possible to see all the village.

Admission Included

Piazza del Comune

Piazza del Comune is the best place to enjoy the medieval palazzi and the beautifully preserved Temple of Minerva. It is an ideal spot to sit on the stone steps and do some people watching while eating a gelato. Roman foundations are a common feature of many buildings here. Below the piazza is the excavated Roman Forum, which can be visited from Via Portica. It is not much of a site if one comes from the splendors of Rome or Pompei, but it makes a good stop in a rainy or hot day and it has the added charm to be completely underground.

Admission Included

Basilica di Santa Chiara

The Basilica of St. Clare is fronted by a terracelike piazza with views over the valley and some shade trees. The church is early Gothic, but still has some Romanesque characteristics, such as round arches and an austere facade.

Admission Included

Eremo delle Carceri

The Eremo delle Carceri, literally the Hermitage of Prisoners, was an early retreat of Saint Francis and his followers. The name derives from the fact that the friars “imprisoned” themselves here, away from worldly temptations, in order to pray. Surrounded by thick ilex woods, the Hermitage is an oasis of peace where one can savor the true Franciscan atmosphere. The road exits the city walls at Porta Cappuccini and climbs to Mount Subasio, a natural reserve area with dramatic views. Park at the attended lot across from the entrance of the monastery.

Terrible experience! Don't book with this operator. Just as the previous reviews described, they never showed up. We decided to give them a chance since we were really interested in this itinerary. They never called or texted. When we called the number provided they didn't answer. Then we got an email saying they cancelled the trip. The cancellation was communicated AFTER pick up time!!! We got the refund but they ruined our day.

THIS IS A SCAM TOUR OPERATOR. I had not read the other review when I booked and I wish I had. The exact same experience. They never showed up. The hotel, Viator and I all called repeatedly for an hour and a half past pickup time and the number was out of service. The hotel said they have had the same experience with many guests not being picked up by Italian Holidays and their numbers never work. Oddly, when Viator submitted the refund request it was instantly approved by Italian Holidays. My guess, is they are a scam operation hoping that people will not fight to get a refund and they simply hope to collect money from less savoy travelers. You absolutely should not book with Italian Holidays as they are not legitimate. Viator is investigating and needs time before removing them. In the meantime do not book this tour.

BEWARE !!!! Tour Operator ITALIAN HOLIDAYS did not show up to pick us up from our hotel after they confirmed the night before and gave us the pick up time. We waited with another couple that was going on the same excursion, but they never showed up. Repeated calls to the tour operator from us, the other couple, our hotel and even Viator went unanswered. Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUR OPERATOR. We got a refund but they wasted our precious vacation day. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE 😡
