The timeride "Cologne 1926" was very well organized. We really liked the way it was presented, the introduction, the mix of live experience & time travel via AR glasses. However, the timing of the visitor groups was quite tight.

The rooms are used and used to their limits. The story is very nice only if you follow the characters while driving into the side streets, a bit of fake movement of the characters arises. Otherwise, however, you are in another world.

We liked the time travel very much, it was very interesting in the cinema of the 20s, the hat making and of course the tour through old Cologne.

We had booked two of the "time travels" via internet before, which was very easy. We had chosen the two time windows so that we had sufficient time between the trip "Cologne 1926" (indoor) and "Cologne Dom 360" (outdoor) for the short walk in between.
- Cologne 1926 -
A maximum of 12 people can participate in each time slot, which is estimated to have been the case during our visit. Time travel is a good mix in three sections.
1. A visit to an interior of an old playhouse projected on the wall. An "old" film is shown, which shows the group in an entertaining way life in Cologne in 1926. Even if the film is not very long, I don't like the fact that there is only one bench for about 6 people in the room, the others can lean on padded standing aids against the wall behind.
2. Next door we went to the workshop of the hat maker Tessa, who was already sitting in front of us in the cinema as a virtual person and as such also creates the connection of all three sections in a kind of story line. A real person introduces the craft as an employee of Tessa with some examples. The decor of the room is detailed and authentic, which supports the impression of being able to look around in 1926. The room is large enough so that everyone can follow the story standing in a semicircle.
3. The last part of the journey through time takes us back to the entrance/exit area of TimeRide, where the replica of a historic tram stands. You can already look at these if you stand in the waiting area at the beginning before part 1. Everyone gets in and gets a brief introduction to the existing VR glasses. I assume that the design of the narrow benches corresponds to the historical model, which then, however, requires tall and/or obese people to sit somewhat uncomfortable.
But the following experience compensates for that. Equipped with the well-fitting glasses, one sits "suddenly" on the train at the "Alter Markt" in 1926. Life all around, conversations, shouts, noises changing lighting conditions and the historical cityscape in a permanent 360° view. This goes on for the whole "ride" and even if the scene is not hyper-realistic, the computer-generated environment is enough to really feel like a time traveler. Sprinkled comments from the driver seem natural and fitting and Tessa has her performances again.
- Cologne Cathedral 360 -
This journey through time takes you on foot around Cologne Cathedral. There is a lot of interesting information about the entire period from the beginning of construction in 1248 to the modern era. During several stops, you can watch the construction progress and the life and hustle around it with VR glasses. So you're kind of in on it. We learned a lot we didn't know about the cathedral and its creation and the VR technology made the story come alive!
To sum up, it applies to us: they were both entertaining, varied and informative time travels. Highly recommended and for a fairly moderate price to experience. The cathedral tour should be done in at least dry weather. An umbrella is not an obstacle, but a bit cumbersome because you have to put the VR glasses on and off at every stop.
At this point we would like to highlight our female guide when travelling around the cathedral: Eirean (pronounced English and I hope I remember it correctly). We were lucky enough to have a "private tour" with her because there were no participants except my wife and me. Eirean was just perfect. Sympathetic, with an open, warm-friendly manner and at the same time professionally informing. That was the icing on the cake for the really nice afternoon.

A delightful experience that lasted about 3/4 hour beginning with a short film then a visit to a ‘hat shop’ and finally a tram ride, using VR headsets, through old Cologne. The tram ride was very well done with the creative modelling team putting in a lot of detail into the virtual world with a lot of interesting scenarios happening along the journey. There was an audio commentary presented by the tram ‘Driver’ which unfortunately didn’t work most of the time for my companion even though an attendant tried to help by adjusting his headset and eventually moving him to another seat. My commentary worked fine so it was disappointing that my companion missed out. Make sure that you arrive in time for the appropriate language tour. We arrived just in time for the English tour. Any later and we would have to have waited 2 hours for the next one. Worth the visit (if everything works!)
