Fascinating tour of Dafuskie Island! Captain Pete was the tour guide ever! Hour boat ride to and from the island with a two hour golf cart tour visiting historic sites and artisan shops.

Captain Pete was awesome! So extremely knowledgeable with the history of the island. He made the tour so much more enjoyable because we learned so much about the rick history of the island. It's worth the cost and time to take this guided tour.

We'd enjoyed this tour a couple years ago, so when we had the chance we took another couple with us. It was all new to them; informative and enjoyable. I was only sorry D'Fuskies was closed on a Monday.

Our tour with Outside Hilton Head to Daufuskie was one of the best water excursions I have been on. I knew right away Captain Pete was an excellent boatsman, but I was amazed at the amount of local history he related over our cruise. Having been born and raised in the Lowcountry I was delighted about the amount of Gullah and Geechie culture he shared on our time on the water and in the golf cart. During each stope he related social, family, religious, and cultural about the people and families of this once isolated coastal sea island. The stop at the Baptist church and Mary White school were my personal favorites . The ability to meet old and new settlers, community leaders, and even the local pastor’s wife gave us a glimpse of living life on Daufuskie today. We were allowed to see and experience the cottage industries of making indigo dyed fabrics, locally made soaps, and even new services like a winery and a coffee shop. Captain Pete gave us updates of the island’s development along with the Gullah stories of Haints and Hags blue painted cottages, and the religious beliefs by reading some from the Gullah New Testament! This cruise gave not only a beautiful view of Broad Creek, Hilton Head Island and Harbor Light the Haig Point Lighthouse, Calibogue Sound, Cooper River, but also the time to reflect on the beauty and blessings of the South Carolina Lowcountry’s marshes, wildlife, and wetlands we are privileged to call home.

Great boat ride. Captain Pete was utterly professional and very personable. Just remember your sunblock as there is little shade on the boat. The tour around Daufuskie island was an adventure. Lots of information shared.

It was a wonderful morning with Bayard on the boat and touring Daufuskie. He did a great job sharing the history but also conveying what a special it is and we could feel it. We are planning on bringing friends here to also experience, hopefully with Bayard!
