This is an easy way to see part of the island from a different perspective.
We got picked up on time at our hotel by our guide, Daniel. It was a quick trip to the starting point. Daniel was cheerful, friendly, informative, and extremely professional. We ended up having a private ride for the three of us. My niece had not been on a bike in a long time and had never been a strong rider. When we did the trial run at a park, she couldn’t get the hang of riding a bike again. Daniel was great with her. He held the bike like you would teach a young kid how to ride and tried to get her comfortable on the bike. After a couple tries, they decided my niece would follow us in the van with Daniel, and my sister and I would ride in front of them. Daniel was great in finding a way to make the trip a success for everyone.
The e-bike gives you the boost to make this ride enjoyable for those who are not typically uphill bikers. The views from the look out points and the greenery were a sight to behold.
You would think that with the name of the trip including the word rainforest, I would think to bring a towel in case it rained. But I did not think that and ended up pretty wet. Daniel did offer us rain ponchos before we started, but we figured we would get too sweaty. Instead we had a rain shower with soft Hawaii water.
Daniel told us that it was that rainy about 40% of the time. But only one of our bikes had a mud guard on the rear wheel. My sister ended up with a mud stripe up the back of her clothes. If the tour company cared about its customers, I think that all of their bikes would be outfitted with mudguards. With a 40% chance of rain, bikes without mud guards happens more than it should.
Having said that, it was still a great ride and I would do it again.

Very beautiful scenery. However, the climb up was tough, so unless you have biked or are in decent shape it may too difficult. Our guide was full of knowledge and helpful. The bikes were in excellent shape and VERY helpful. Without the electric assist we would not have been able to the top.

Our riding guide Michael was great. We are 77 y.o. & he knew exactly when we needed a photo op stop. He even had it rain on us for the full experience! After the ride he drove us up to Tantalus Lookout. We loved the warm rain while looking down on sunny Honolulu. Thank you Michael.

First off, let me say that our tour guide was patient, helpful and friendly. That said, be prepared. This is a 10 mile ride with the first 5 miles being up steep, winding residential roads. Although the electric bikes make riding on the flat effortless, just move the pedals gently and the bike runs at about 10mph, but is little help on the uphill. We were struggling from the start and huffing and puffing after the first mile. Would not recommend unless you bike hills regularly and like the challenge. They do offer a downhill only ride on the same road.

This tour was excellent and the breath of fresh air that I needed. Pick up all the way to the ride up the mountain and down was perfect and the guide was extremely helpful. I’d do this experience again!

What to expect
We provide Kona E-Bikes and Bell helmets for this guided tour. We call it "10-Miles of Smiles" as we pedal up and back down the rural paved road through lush Honolulu Rainforest. With a mid-drive, 250-watt electric-assist motor, pedaling uphill is noticeably easier just by pedaling your bike. Try it and see why we are the only ones smiling on the uphill ride. Must be 14 years or older and under 240 lbs to participate. Participants are required to pedal and be reasonably fit. If you prefer more of a coasting bike tour with little to no pedaling required, try our Downhill Bike Tour.
