A must do! The drive up in the foothills is nice. We missed the history and informational narration because our driver did not speak English. If you ride with Maria you do get that. The walk was lovely and the lunch perfect. Lots of local cheeses, cured meats and fruit with wine and fresh water.

Maria was BY FAR the best host we could’ve hoped for.
On our tour day, we found out in the morning that the fast ferries were not running out of Como. This meant that we would have to use other modes of travel or just miss out on this. After I messaged Maria telling her that we would likely need to miss out on her hike, she willingly offered to pick us up in Como. This created a 1.5 hour trip for her to pick us up. This kindness was easily the best interaction we had our entire trip. She even ferried us across the lake on the car ferry, and drove us back to where she picked us up in Como.
We were lucky to be Maria’s only guests that day, so it was a no-rush, conversational tour of the smaller villages above Varenna, and into the most beautiful view we saw the entire week.
This day was perfect and we have Maria and the beautiful locations she had chosen to thank for that.

What an AMAZING day! We had the pleasure of being taken to the top of Varenna by Maria & Svetlana. Both the girls welcomed us with open arms and bright smiles. During our trip up the mountain, they were able to tell us so much history about the lake and the towns that we were passing. The picnic that was set up for us was spectacular. The views were breathtaking, and the food and wine were delicious! Such an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone! We can't wait to go back and see them again!

This was by far the very best experience we have had on our 3 week Europe vacation. The two ladies that led the picnic were amazing and so nice. They knew so much history about the area. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. I highly recommend this hiking/picnic tour.

What to expect
We meet at the pier at the Hotel Olivedo in Varenna. We board the car that will take us up to the mountains. Travel time will be around 40 minutes. On the way you’ll be able to admire dramatic landscapes, half-abandoned churches, orchards and, of course, the lake.
When we reach the parking place we leave the car and the guide will take us on a nice walk through the forest with panoramas of the water surface. The walk will take 20-30 minutes depending on the walking speed.
Rising to the very foothills of the Alps, the views will finally open in all their glory. We now get to the picnic area, where you find everything ready for you, a light music in the background, an elegant atmosphere and a magnificent view. We will show you the products we have selected from local farmers and tell you where they come from and the stories behind these places, then leave you to enjoy the atmosphere! We guarantee you will take great photos!
The total activity time will be 3 - 3.5 hours.
