The Other Charleston is an appropriately named tour. We cannot speak highly enough about this guided tour by Franklin. He is incredibly knowledgeable. He shares his knowledge about the History of Charleston that is not covered in other tours. Enlightening and informative, particularly to us as adults born in other countries. Highly recommend.

It is rare in a city that an option for a tour where the story behind the story is provided. Franklin schooled us about the history of Charleston as we walked and drove the city streets. Unscripted he plays off the energy of the group and organically tailors the experience uniquely to each group. When he says,“ask questions”, my advice is to ask questions because he truly makes it interactive journey.

Frank was professional , knowledgeable, funny but above all, thought provoking and passionate in his mission to provide the Real story of the enslaved of Charleston. His tour takes you off the white-washed path of the carriage tours onto the pavement of the neighborhoods, homes, backyards of the people who really Built Charleston. It changed me. Well Done Frank and Thank you.

This tour exceeded all our expectations! It was our first visit to Charleston and we wanted to make sure that we experienced an accurate telling of history. Frank was an incredible tour guide. He was knowledgeable and friendly, encouraged our questions and comments. He even had a list of suggested reading if you get the bug to learn more about "Confederate Disneyland". It is clear that Frank loves learning and is always expanding his knowledge and adding to the tour. We would absolutely recommend this tour. You won't be sorry!

Franklin is extremely knowledgeable and thought provoking...with a good sense of humor. His tour is a combination of historical information and reflection upon where we are today. It's an essential tour if you want to know the real, hidden history of the Charleston African American experience.

Had we known this tour would have been so informative, we would have spent more time in Charleston. Frank is an excellent guide. His conversations are engaging. It was as if we were in a live historical museum. Thanks Frank!!!

We are thankful to Franklin for sharing about Charleston's African American history. This city was built by enslaved folks and was largely a black city for much of its history. We appreciated his knowledge of history, his stories, and the sites and, most of all, his perspective that Charleston--and we would say the whole U.S.--needs to come to terms with the painful, ugly side of our history in order for there to be integrity and healing. We learned a lot and especially admire Franklin's mission to speak the truth. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon!

***** 5 STAR TOUR! Frank is the owner-operator and tour guide for this fascinating 2-hour tour. He is a gifted storyteller and an extraordinary historian. He generously shares his vast knowledge of the early history of Charleston. Frank's unique perspective into the daily lives and contributions of the thousands of long-forgotten enslaved artisans, craftspeople, and builders of the city honors their legacy. It isn't always a pretty story, but an essential part of its history. Frank is beloved by Charlestonians and no wonder. I was riveted by every moment of this tour and left with an appetite to learn more about this beautiful and complex city. Highest recommendation!
