Had great time touring with Pat Kennedy. He took us to some beautiful photography locations and attempted to put us on some wildlife. Also showed us some neat tips for using the iPhone and had great advice about settings on DSLRs for taking photos of Northern Lights (future trip). He had a pretty big group and did a good job helping a wide range of photo skills.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our private photography tour in Haines. The scenery was beautiful and our guide, Karla, did a great job telling us about the area and providing us with excellent photo opportunities. We saw bald eagles, trumpeter swans with their babies, a seal, and a bear! Yea! Thank you, Karla, for your excellent suggestions and a great day in Haines!

My husband and I took the Skagway in focus Photography Tour August 6, 2024, and Pat was our guide. We got so lucky to have such a beautiful clear day in Skagway. Pat was a plethora of information and we learned so much from him about Alaska, Skagway, Haines, the Klondike, etc. He was very personable and fun and told us of the exploring he has done while in Alaska. He asked us what we wanted to see and took us to photograph bald eagles, glaciers, waterfalls. Pat drove us up the Klondike summit just over the Canadian border where we were able to photograph the Fraser area and its beautiful mountains, rivers, and lakes. We highly recommend this excursion. Thank you Pat for making our day in Skagway so amazing.

Brolin took us through the fog up the Klondike Highway past Fraser to the Loggers Cabin. We had numerous stops and while underway Brolin was a fountain of information. We photographed wild flowers, the White Pass train, Glacier Lake and much more. And we saw a bear. Twice.

Our tours begin at the Skagway Cruise Ship Docks. However, our guides can also pick you up from local hotels as well as most bed-and-breakfasts in the town-site.
What to expect
Escape the crowds of Skagway on a small group photography tour in the stunning Chilkat Valley. Your expert photographer guide will assist you in capturing the best of the Chilkat Valley's unique attractions.
The trip begins with a 45-minute 100-passenger shuttle catamaran ride along the steep-walled fjord between Skagway and Haines.
Your guide has scouted out the best areas for the day's photo shoot. Since this is a exclusive tour, you will be able to work directly with the guide to decide which locations and subject matter you want to focus on. Depending on the lighting and weather, different locations in the Chilkat Valley boast specific photographic highlights. May, June, and July feature wildflowers and bald eagles. Beginning in August, pink salmon begin their run up the Chilkoot River to spawn and brown bear often come down to the river to feed. When bears are present, every effort will be made to give you safe bear viewing and photography.
The theme is flexibility, fun and learning. A simple point and shoot camera or smartphone will work, but by all means, bring all your photo gear. You’ll return to Skagway by catamaran.
