Our next site “rises like a tiered wedding cake to the west of the White House.” Constructed in 1888 by Alfred Mullett, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (later renamed after the 34th president) was the home to the State, Navy, and War Departments.

James Renwick, the designer of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall lends his name to our next stop- the red-brick Renwick Gallery- a site that he completed in 1874.
