    Our Tour Guide, Jan, was excellent in his ability to provide historic information about San Sebastián, while bringing us to several Pintxo bars and indulging us with awesome food and drink! I highly recommend Jan as your Tour Guide, for which ever tour you decide to take!

    What a great way to experience San Sebastián! Carlotta toured our group by van and on foot around the city showing off the city highlights and then treated us to a variety of wonderful tasty pintxos. Her energy and enthusiasm were contagious and we could not have had a better time!

    Such an efficient way to learn the city. Really do this on day one. Ania, our guide, was fantastic. We highly recommend her and ikushani.com. In just 4 hours we covered most of the main areas and even rode the funicular to the summit of Igueldo. Very informative and many local insights that you won’t find in your own.

    We are four friends from the United States visiting Donostia-San Sebastian for the first time. The early September weather was warm, the skies sunny, and we had a perfect day for a tour of the city with our guide Ania of Ikusnahi Tours. Ania was a joy to be with. Her disposition was upbeat, friendly and her knowledge of the area and history was both wide and deep. She was particularly helpful in our understanding of the Basque culture and traditions, very much alive in San Sebastián. Ania also frequently asked for our interests and customized the tour accordingly. A high point of the tour was the walk through Old Town where Ania brought us to a pintxos bar, a must have experience here, and helped us order some delicious small plates and wine while mixing in with a local crowd. She later gave us a list of her favorite pintxos bars which we availed ourselves of a few nights later when we went unaccompanied for a night on the town of bar and food hopping. Her recommendations were great. Below is an itinerary of our 3.5 hours with Ania so you can see how much she delivered in a relatively short time, leaving us feeling familiar with and ready to explore the city on our own for the rest of our stay. She arrived promptly at 10:00 am with a Mercedes van large enough for all four of us including one, very tall gentleman who had plenty of legroom. She was an excellent driver which is important in both the urban center where there is a lot of traffic and pedestrians as well as on our journey up some of the hills that surround La Concha beach. Our first stop was at the west end of the crescent to view the Combs of the Wind sculptures. They jut out from the steep cliffs at that end of the harbor to interact with the wind and surf. It was a great place to take photos and get a feel for the outer harbor. Ania then took us up the steep, hillside road to the amusement park atop Monte Igeldo where we had a fabulous view of the city and the boat regatta underway with much fanfare in the bay below. I wouldn’t want to drive up that road so was glad we had Ania at the wheel. Then we drove to the other end of the city to the Gros neighborhood and Zurriola beach. Ania parked near the modern conference center and then took us the rest of the tour on foot through the historic old town that was crowded with fans of the regattas. In summary, we highly recommend Ania for any tour!

    Monte Igueldo

    They say that God made a model of paradise and that once it was built, he kept the model… thus, San Sebastián was born. To understand (and enjoy) the natural beauty of San Sebastián, we’ll start at the top of Mount Igueldo where you’ll find the most amazing views of the city. There we’ll learn about the history of the Basque Country, the Bay of Biscay and the role of San Sebastián in all this. Can you get rich trading wool? Were boats of a quality and reputation similar to that of Ferraris and Porsches manufactured in sixteenth century Euskadi? Yes, and yes.

    Peine del Viento

    The best way to descend Igueldo is aboard its wooden funicular, which is more than 100 years old. We get off next to the most photographed sculpture in the city: the Peine del Viento by Eduardo Chillida, made of corten steel (hence its deliberate rust color.) To scratch the winds and frequent waves of this place.

    Zurriolako Hondartza

    We’ll head over to the other 'Finis Terrae' of the city, Sagüés and La Zurriola, the epicenter of the surfing scene in San Sebastián. But first we’ll check out the main hallmarks of the city: its 'posh' side, its romantic nooks, the palace built for royal summers at the end of the 19th century (Miramar Palace), the French-influenced, modernist and rationalist buildings (with the odd nod to the Bauhaus), or more recent architecture such as the Kursaal, two buildings that seem to be beached rocks by the sea.

    The Old Town is the gastronomic epicenter of San Sebastián (yes, here are the pintxo bars, the gastronomic sociedades ‘ [think private eating clubs], seasoned locals enjoying the timeless 'txikiteo' [a sort of uptempo bar-hopping] – ordering 'zuritos' or 'cañas'. Here is the gluttonous, indulgent San Sebastián you’ve heard tell of), and the site of the city’s oldest buildings. You’ll come away with a Master's Degree in navigating “miniature cuisine” (how do you order a pintxo? When do you pay?), and High Honors in Basque bars. Okay. Let's talk about serious things. Everything we’ve told you about pintxos wouldn’t make sense if we didn’t visit the most iconic bars to try their most famous pintxos accompanied by cider, wine or beer. The snack will end with the sweet dessert that locals love to eat while walking down the street: a creamy, sweet and stunning artisanal ice cream. Now you can go to bed satisfied.
