Palace of Versailles

The chateau and gardens count among the most prestigious monuments of the world’s artistic heritage, and are certainly the finest and most complete achievement of 17th century French art. Former residence of the ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV, this sumptuous royal palace was home to three of France’s most illustrious Kings for over 100 years. The guided tour of the palace includes the State Apartments of the King and Queen, Royal Chapel and Hall of Mirrors, a richly decorated gallery which boasts 357 mirrors, french bay windows and crystal chandeliers.

The Hall of Mirrors

The Hall of Mirrors in Versailles is a grand gallery built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in 1678, featuring a length of 73 meters. The impressive vaulted ceiling of the hall was painted by Charles Le Brun between 1681 and 1684. This vast gallery serves as the central corridor of the Palace of Versailles, connecting the Salon de la Guerre and the Salon de la Paix with the King and Queen's State Apartments.

Great tour Something I’ll never forget The amount of art and how beautiful the rooms were is unbelievable

The guided tour we had was not great. Didn’t have enough time to take photos and explore the place, tour guide constantly demanded that we stand around in a circle as she talk about how King Henry lived, most of which was repetitive. Personally would recommend going by yourself. It looks like there’s a long line at entrance A (no tour) but the two girls who arrived a the same time we did and lined up, basically left the same time as us. Just get there early to skip the crowd. Towards the end guide rushed through the rooms as the time was up. Not worth the hassle.

My spouse and I had a great time. Our guide Ching was friendly, informative and moved us through the palace in such a way that we felt one-step ahead of the crowd but not at all rushed. I would highly recommend this tour.

Jenny_S

Well organised system and punctual, variable tour guides on experience and ability to explain. Worth it just to skip the line

Highly recommend. The check in process and meeting place were easy to find. Once we checked in, we were separated by english, Spanish, French, etc. We were give Julie as a tour guide and she was fantastic. She had knowledge, humor and really enjoyed taking us on the tour. I hope you get her as your guide. I recommend you use the bathroom before the tour starts. The 90 minute timeframe was perfect for my wife and I!

Our tour guide Julie was excellent! Very knowledgeable and friendly. She really knows her stuff! Smaller groups are always better as well.

Great tour for the money. Quick access and guide who knew how to navigate the crowds very well!! Very knowledgeable about the building and the items container therin.

KAREN_B

Very personable guided tour with lots of little insights. Loved “Anna”. Would highly recommend! She was able to tell us so much more than the placards in each room and wss as also very skilled at directing us to a convenient spot for her talks.

The major benefits of using a tour guide is that you skip the long lines and you are able to ask questions. This was an English speaking tour, but our guide did not have full command of the English language. She mispronounced words that made understanding her tour more difficult to understand. Although informative, she tended to be too long winded and was even approached by Palace staff to move along. Versailles is a must see, but this experience was not as favorable an experience as other tours we had.

Myriam was an excellent guide? Even though we had no wait tickets it took right at an hour in light rain, standing outside to get in the palace. Fortunately our tour guide was well versed in history and told us much of what she was going to share while we were outside.
