Located in the best part of Toronto in terms of walkability to all the major tourist sites, public transportation, parks galore, restaurants, TIFF, etc. the Ace hotel is also an architectural jewel in terms of interior design, such as their famous ‘The Lobby.’ The rooms at first seem sparse especially with the use of cement and plywood, however … come ‘home’ at the end of the day and you’ll find your room relaxing, even soothing. But the best thing about the Toronto Ace? the staff!! After only a couple of days stay, Sheldon (he of the driest sense of humour) knew what I’d like for breakfast including, “Americano, three shots?” At the end of the day there was Jerome to welcome me back. But Michaela was the joy! From the moment she greeted me when I arrived, she was always professional and helpful, friendly to everyone. One moment stands out when she was so kind and supportive after I had had not the greatest day. Seriously, I had tears when checking out and I had to say goodbye to Michaela. Will I return? You bet! The Ace is the best hotel experience I’ve had in Toronto and I’ve been coming to this city for both business and pleasure for over forty years.

I’ll give it one star, being generous because of the architecture of the place. I went there to check out the café and have something to drink or eat, and it was “full” of people using the free WiFi without consuming anything. Even though there were tables available, the person in charge—who clearly seems to have never been taught basic manners—told me that if I wasn’t a hotel guest, I couldn’t sit at any table, despite the fact that there were clearly people there who were not staying at the hotel. Terrible service.
