A fantastic hotel with lots of great little extras included free of charge. Apples in the gym, welcome drinks at dinner, sweets at reception, etc. It's the little things that count. Very friendly service, a great selection at breakfast, clean rooms,...

I treated myself to a junior suite and was pleasantly surprised by all the little extras provided: an all bases covered for anyone who might have forgotten simple things like a toothbrush and paste, cotton buds, a bottle opener, shoe horn, a shoe shine or sewing kit. Basically, you could turn up without most of your toiletries and get by for a few days, though it's wise to take your own tea bags and coffee, and buy milk and any extras from the local Pingo Doce supermarket. You have a mini fridge in the room, also a safe to keep your documents etc in. Breakfast was available from 7.30-10am and offered something to meet a range of tastes, though the coffee machines do have a tendency to fail at times causing queues and the coffee isn't that great. Still a very impressive spread. I made use of the sauna and steam room, and although they can accommodate up to 4 people at a time, I had sole use for my booked slots, which felt like luxury. The pool is lovely, and yes, nearby building work is still ongoing, and does spoil the peace a little, but this appears to be an issue wherever you go and it's tourist demand that drives it. The rooftop bar was a highlight for me and André made my experience all the better for welcoming me each evening as a solo traveller. I appreciated his dry wit and was disappointed when he wasn't on shift. I guess people come with their own expectations of a four star hotel, but as someone who was seeking a relaxing and peaceful holiday, Allegro Madeira afforded me privacy, excellent facilities and services and pretty much all the comforts of home. The bed was fantastically comfortable and if I wanted to watch TV, there were a few English-speaking channels to choose from. There were no late night disturbances and, for me, the location was ideal and offered easy access to Funchal, as well as the lovely promenade walk to Camãra de Lobos. The hotel is also a pickup point for most tours and hiking transfers. Finally, the reception staff were pleasant and welcoming, and the cleaning staff brilliant. Big thanks to Sandra for checking whether or not I wanted my room cleaned and also to the cleaner who showed me how to lock and unlock the balcony door (basically pull door towards you and then lock/unlock). Simple things like this you need to know, so I hope my review helps answer some of the questions other visitors may have and provides a balanced overview of what to expect from a stay at Allegro Madeira. PS don't go for a basic room if you can opt for a junior suite. The extra space is definitely worth it.

A very nice hotel. The hotel is clean and the staff is helpful. If I were to come to Madeira again, I would choose it again. I recommend it!
