I booked this hotel as it was a Chase Edit hotel and have had great experiences in the past with the perks that come with using this card and booking this level of accommodations. Unfortunately, this stay, aside from a couple of interactions with a few staff, was very disappointing. The valet people have always been very kind and try to be a prompt as possible which I very much appreciated. The man who checked us into the hotel was also great, polite and friendly and explained the benefits we would receive in detail. There was a woman at The Cafe, she may be the manager who was also friendly and tried her best to rectify the issues that arose. Unfortunately, The Cafe and the “breakfast credit” we get through Chase Sapphire Reserve was extremely flawed. The wait times for breakfast were so long that out of the 3 days, we were only been able to use the sit down breakfast credit once. The waits were long even though there are several open tables because staffing was not taken into account for the busy holiday season. I know this because when I brought my issue to the front desk, the woman let me know there were “too many Chase and Amex guests to accommodate.” This is not the credit card/guests fault but we are the ones who are affected by the lack of staffing. The first day the wait was so long that I just ended up ordering pastries from the counter. The pastries were dry and did not taste fresh. When we did have the time to wait for a table (we were seated after 11am for breakfast), nobody greeted us after we were sat for over 10 minutes. The manager eventually came to check on us and took our order. I asked about gluten free bread and was told there was some so I picked my meal based on being told that. When the meal was delivered, I was told there was no more gluten free bread. I understand that kitchens run out of things, but it would have been nice to be told that prior to my order being delivered so I could choose if I still wanted that meal. I was brought a replacement or tortillas after I had already finished the food. The manager was kind enough to remove my meal from the bill. Since we are also given a $100 resort credit, I thought to myself, well I won’t be using that for the Cafe due to the experience we have had thus far. I’ll use it for parking or room service. I read the paper again and realized it can’t be used for either of those things. So now, if I want to use it, I would’ve had to return to the place with long waits and issues with our meals. I would not recommend this hotel to others. I emailed the manager my concerns and never received a response.

This hotel has a lot of potential, but we had an overall disappointing experience. We booked our stay through Chase Edit, and the lady at check-in was confused about the benefits. She said since the reservation was pre-paid we weren't eligible for any benefits or upgrades through my Bonvoy Titanium status. After going back and forth she did said she could do a one-category upgrade since we booked through Chase. Our "upgraded" room was on the 2nd floor and overlooked an AC unit (photos below). On the 2nd night I did pay extra to upgrade to a room on a higher floor and the view was worth it. At check-out I was told I couldn't use my $100 property credit for a room upgrade and that it was only for the bar and restaurant. The breakfast options at hotel restaurant were good, however they were understaffed and breakfast for 2 took over an hour, and we ordered right away. I liked the pool area all the communal spots up there. The immediate area of the hotel isn't great, but it's close to Gas Lamp and has easy access to most of SD with trolly stop on the same block.
