We stayed here during our recent trip to Amsterdam and I think it's fair to say that we were quite disappointed with the hotel. There were a few positives and negatives to it, but overall, we found it to be quite lacking. On the positive side, the location was brilliant - it was very close to everything and within walking distance to a lot of eateries. It was also close by to bus/tram/Metro stops which made everything a bit easier as I'm sure you can imagine. The breakfast was decent enough to keep you going most of the day, the yoghurts there were delicious. There wasn't a huge amount of choice in the grand scheme of things, but definitely enough. The hotel itself is very dated which I don't have a problem with, but there is absolutely no sound proofing in the rooms. You could hear everything; doors opening/shutting, people walking up/down stairs, people trying the locks on their doors and then putting their chain on and that's just inside the hotel. Our room faced the street (we had the small double room) and every person who walked past talking could be heard clearly in the room, every car, every bike, everything. It was a total nightmare for trying to get to sleep. The room was also unbearably hot for the first few days that we were there and there's no air conditioning. There was a fan in the wardrobe but this didn't work at all. On the booking, it listed the hotel room as having 'free toiletries', when this in fact just meant a bottle of shampoo in the shower - no shower gel. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable, the room was very small (though to be fair this was fine for us), and there was mould in the bathroom. I definitely wouldn't come back here, I don't fault the location, but I'd find somewhere else to stay.

Spacious room with a lovely view of the canal. Living room on the ground floor with complimentary hot drinks. The maintenance team was very responsive when we encountered a water problem. No soundproof double glazing (a shame), but the nights (in March) were relatively quiet. Good sweet breakfast; the quality of the cold cuts could be better. A receptionist is available 24/7.

Wonderful authentic hotel right on the canal. Breakfast included … a reasonable selection of pastries etc. extremely steep stairs … fortunately I have the double canal view room on the first floor which is just adorable
