Anantaya Resort and Spa Chilaw

Not recommended. From the start, * As welcome they gave a face towel, which was so smelly. Im sure they do not wash those well, they just add cologne and pass on from one to other. * They couldn't prepare rooms on time. Handed over the keys saying its ready, but when reached staff was still on duty. * food was taste less. For meats no salt and paper or a seasoning. They just fry frozen meat and serve. * so many flies sitting on the food. * buffet was on a open area, staff was full of sweat after working. They have no other option than serving as same. * jelly custard was just a mix of water, you can't eat it. Just have to drink the mix 😅 * Tables were not prepared. * pool not properly cleaned. * hotels seems like an abandoned, no proper maintenance carried out. * no mini fridges on rooms. * staff mentioned that this hotel now belongs to FIND MY FAIR, seems they too don't care. * they charge extra for driver facilities, yet they treat them as animals. Serves left over food, just 2 glass to drink water for all the drivers. We had to provide separate meals for the driver as he was not happy with the service. * can imagine how they treat their own employees, by looking at the way they treat the drivers. Drivers and junior staff use the same lunch room. Will never go there again, and will not recommend to others too. Just a waste of money.

"Having returned from a stay at the Kappa Club Anantaya (Sri Lanka) in February 2026, the experience was deplorable for a package costing €6,052. Despite providing several photos and recordings as evidence, Promoséjours is offering compensation of €200 in cash or a €400 voucher (barely 3% of the trip price!). This is an insult considering the physical harm suffered and the failure to meet the promised 5-star standard. I will be forwarding this case to the Tourism Mediator (MTV) and will also be filing a complaint with the DGCCRF (SignalConso). Avoid this place at all costs if you are looking for quality and safety. Furthermore, the hotel is completely isolated, so you feel trapped. If you want to go out for a drink or a meal outside the hotel, you have to travel at least 10 km to the nearest town. The staff are friendly, but when..." When you arrive, you have to remember to order your drinks, otherwise you'll finish your meal without anything to drink, and often the drinks aren't even cold. At night, there's no lighting in some places along the path to the buffet, because there's only a buffet, no restaurant, not even a shop for basic necessities. It's absolutely not a 5-star hotel. And if you don't miss the window for snacks, which is from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, they refuse to order certain items from the menu, and the order arrives (well, you have to go and get it) an hour later, and on top of that, they've made a mistake with the order. Their bedding is so hard that I threw my back out, resulting in two sessions with a physiotherapist/osteopath and a third one in a week… After a few days, I asked them to change my mattress, because it was impossible to change rooms, as it would have meant repacking my suitcases, which I couldn't manage, so I ended up with a rollaway bed. And just a sheet on top, wow, a 5-star hotel! Separating a couple and treating me like a child, what can I say?! And no change of sheets for 10 days. Oh yes, and the shower gel that you have to ask for every day… Every time we went to the buffet, we had to choose our own dishes because they weren't clean, there were stains in practically every cup and plate. And then you're in Sri Lanka, so spicy, hot food is normal, but they don't indicate that the other dishes are also spicy, and what a surprise because 80% of the dishes are spicy and there's no label to warn you. The room's terrace wasn't cleaned either and was unusable because of cobwebs and spiders, of course. The bathroom blinds were broken, which is convenient since you have a large window directly behind it overlooking the pool. Luckily we were on the first floor. The restrooms at reception and the buffet… aren't cleaned. And if you want to have an aperitif, go early to get somewhere to sit, if you want Being outdoors. The tour operator who quotes you €150 or €200 per person for excursions, so do like everyone else and take a taxi outside; it'll cost you €105 for 5 or 7 people, what's the difference? The sun loungers they were repainting and repairing, the towels and parasols with holes... The cleaning crew talking at 6 a.m. under your windows while cleaning around the pool, and the fishing boats passing by at 3 a.m., then again at 4 a.m., no rest for you... Oh yes, the overwater villas, which have been under renovation for two years, with barrier tape blocking access because it's too dangerous, and the completely green mangrove where pipes from the complex are dumped... I could go on, but I'll leave you with this: run away!!!

I was on a tour, so had events booked. Otherwise it was a bit remote if you wanted more than staying at a resort. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
